If you care about making child care more affordable – voting for candidates who also want to address the issue is the most effective thing you can do for your bottom line right now.
For parents – child care in Wisconsin and across the country is expensive and hard to find.
For child care workers, they are making the same amount at doggie day care workers.
And, honestly, it’s not a problem that is going to fix itself without government intervention.
And even if you don’t have kids and don’t want kids, not fixing child care affordability and access issues will take parents out of the workforce, at a time when we are having workforce shortages in a ton of different industries.
So at the state level – elect representatives who want to extend Child Care Counts – which is set to end June 2025 when the federal pandemic relief funds will run out.
When it comes to the presidential campaign – Harris has proposed capping families child care costs to 7% of their income. She also wants to expand the child tax credit. Her plan includes providing middle-class and working-class parents with $6,000 in the first year of their child’s life, $3,600 a year when their child is between the ages one and five, and $3,000 a year after they turn six.
