At 2:30am last night, following a day filled with closed door discussions among GOP lawmakers, Wisconsin Republicans gutted Child Care Counts, Wisconsin’s pandemic era child care subsidy program, voting to erase $340 million for the program from the governor’s budget proposal. This will exacerbate the child care crisis our state was already in. Child care will become even less available and more expensive and more families will be forced to choose between working and staying home with their kids.
