Four years in the making, after extensive planning and collaboration among a team of noted Wisconsin theater professionals, the World Premiere Wisconsin starts today! The theater festival will run until June 30, 2023, throughout the state – from the tip of Door County to the state line and across 20 distinct zip codes. Featuring productions, readings and workshops of never-before-seen new plays, WPW is a celebration of contemporary playwriting and a showcase for Wisconsin’s thriving and diverse theater scene. We talk to the festival’s Producer, Michael Cotey, and the Artistic Director of Forward Theater Company, Jen Uphoff Gray, about how the festival came to be, where you can catch it across the state, and why now is the best time to be supporting live theater.
What’s your secret trick for getting rid of hiccups? Greg and Kristin discuss their trusty rituals and try to break down the science of this “foolproof” hiccup straw. Would you spend $15 on it if you knew that you could just put a napkin over a glass of water and chug?
One of Milwaukee’s most famous chefs, Adam Pawlak was back on national television last night in a new Food Network cooking competition, “Superchef Grudge Match.”
Adam joins us to talk about going head-to-head against his Hell’s Kitchen co-star, Declan Horgan. What’s on the line? Bragging rights, $10,000, and each chef’s favorite chef’s knife are up for grabs. Then the two culinary contenders have 30 minutes to cook up a dish.
Adam had a viewing party at his Bay View restaurant, Egg & Flour for friends and family who joined to watch him bring home a win.
If you missed the episode, don’t worry; it will re-air on Food Network on Wednesday, March 1st, at 11 p.m.; Saturday, March 4th, at noon; and Tuesday, March 7th, at 1 p.m. The new episode should also be made available on Discovery+, Fubo TV, the Food Network’s app, DirecTV and Spectrum On Demand.
You can also catch Adam this Saturday with another Hell’s Kitchen alum, Mary Lou, for a 5 course southern dinner at the Milwaukee Public Market or catch one of his cooking classes.
The headliner at The Laughing Tap this weekend is Samantha Ruddy:
Samantha Ruddy tells jokes, writes funny stuff, and has strong opinions on Mountain Dew iterations. Samantha has performed standup on both The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She’s also announced at the NYC Pride March, been heard on NPR, and appeared in videos for Comedy Central and Marvel. She has performed at comedy festivals like New York Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Her debut comedy album, Logging Out, was named one of the best comedy albums of 2020 by NPR and is the reason Paste Magazine referred to her as a “joke machine.”
